Available Home Electrification Rebates

Our Elite Heating & Air team details everything in this section and provides links to the specific rebates.

Single Family Home Rebates

This is a brand-new rebate program and part of the Inflation Reduction Act. The state of California administers the federal money involved in the program.

HEEHRA rebates are funded by the Inflation Reduction Act, overseen by the U.S. Department of Energy, and managed by the California Energy Commission. TECH Clean California is administering the first phase of the HEEHRA Program.

Standard Tech clean rebates, as well as the HEEHRA rebates, are available statewide.

Here are the requirements:

  • Work must be performed by a TECH-enrolled and HEEHRA-trained contractor
  • The project must be a non-heat pump to heat pump installation
  • No new construction — retrofits only
  • Equipment must be ENERGY STAR® certified, and only 2-stage or variable capacity systems are eligible
  • No new dual fuel installations are eligible
  • Customers must meet the income threshold

So, what are the income threshold thresholds? Explore the details below:

  • Less than 80% Area Median Income (AMI) – $8,000 per unit (Rebate not to exceed 100% of qualified product costs)
  • 80-150% AMI – $4,000 per unit (Rebate not to exceed 50% of qualified product costs)
  • If approved, a $200 installer incentive is added to the rebate total for low-income single-family heat pump (HVAC) installation

Remember, there can only be one incentive per household. Please note that it will not be subject to project cost capping.Learn more about the income thresholds here.

Heat Pump Rebates

Switching to an electric heat pump reduces energy consumption and carbon emissions. SMUD offers rebates to help offset the cost of installing an electric HVAC system. These rebates make it more affordable to make the switch. For detailed information on this home electrification rebate, visit the HVAC (Heat Pump) Rebates page.

Water Heater Electric Conversion Rebates

Did you know that an electric heat-pump water heater is more efficient and requires less maintenance than gas units? SMUD provides rebates to help with the cost of upgrading to an electric water heater. To learn more, explore the Water Heater Rebates page.

Stove/Range/Oven Electric Conversion Rebates

SMUD offers rebates for converting your gas stove to an electric model to help bring down the costs. For more information on these rebates, visit the Stove/Range/Oven Rebates page.

Main Electrical Panel Rebates

You might have to upgrade your main electrical panel to convert to a fully electric setup. To help financially, SMUD offers rebates for main electrical panel upgrades. This upgrade is needed so your home can support all of your new electric appliances. Learn more about the rebates on the Go Electric Bonus Package page.

Induction Cooktop Rebates

Induction cooktops require a dedicated 240VAC circuit. If your main panel can’t support the additional load, you’ll need a panel upgrade. To help offset the costs, SMUD offers rebates. For more info, visit the Induction Cooktop Rebates page.
